Pet Peeves
I am not a 'go with the flow' person.
Actually, I'm about as far from that as one can possibly get. Most of the time, I get annoyed with people and their stupid behavior very quickly. I don't adjust, and I'm quick to irritate when somoene does something boneheaded.
Matt tells me all the time that I need to calm down. Usually, he's the one who reigns me in when I'm on that edge. I'll call, and he'll let me vent, take me down a few notches, and then do something boneheaded himself.
I have a lot more patience for people that I like than people that I don't know or don't like. For them, it would probably be best for them to stop, and back away slowly, not looking into my eyes. It might make me turn.
I blame retail. I have been working in stores for about four years now. It started at BT department stores, and then moved over to the Zod about three years ago. Retail has made me into a short tempered person. There are a lot of things that can make me annoyed at work.
For example:
People who bring out their coupon after I pressed total. I know that it's not that big of a deal to press the clear button, but it's the principle of the thing. You know you are going to use that coupon before you came to the register. Why not let me in on it?
Ooh, and people who watch me walk from the front of the store, let someone in to the fitting room, and then walk back to the front of the store, and then ask me for a fitting room. That's a big one. I mean, it's just obnoxious.
Lately, there has been another one. We have to welcome every customer into the store verbally, and usually, the person who is closest to the door doest the greeting. And it seems like without fail, every time that I'm supposed to be greeting, people in a big group have to trickle in, one by one. So I have to greet one person, then two persons, then three persons, and so on. I'm sorry, but why would you do that? Does your friend have BO problems, and you don't want to stand near them? Bad fashion sense? Are you too good to walk in with your own mother? Why do customers do this.
And my annoyances seem to be creeping up online now too. Authors who don't bother to proof their stuff before siccing it on the awaiting public, and have it full of mistakes and then get an attitude with reviewers who call them on it. Now, I'm not the best at proofreading my own stuff. That's why I have two betas, and a few other people who give me an honest opinion of what they think of my story. It is very obvious who puts the time and effort into making their story have the best storyline possible, and making everything grammatically correct, and who just posts for the hell of it.
There is one mistake that has been popping up more times than I can count. And it irritates me to no end.
Shudder- Verb- To tremble, to shake
Shutter- Noun- A usually movable cover or screen for a window or door
I absolutely hate, hate, HATE seeing something like
Rory shuttered when Tristan ran his hand down her arm.
Gah! Why don't people pay attention to this? Why don't people know the difference?

Again, we take too much pride in ourselves to send out stories/chapters that are inconsistent.
I admit, I have gone through betas like water and they hate it when I ask them why they didn't point out my mistakes. Not being a native English speaker, I do often have issues with tenses. So when I reread my chaps online and see a mistake, I reload the story with the corrections.
But I think a lot or (current) fanfic writers just put junk up there so that their friends can gloat and say they know the "author". When you don't know when to use its and it's or straight and strait, you need to get a beta. Better yet, have some sense of pride and take corrections and suggestions with a grain of salt.
But then, I know you have enough in your cache to reread authors that are worth reading when crap surfaces. LOL

People don't know the difference because no one ever corrected them when they mispronounced it, and so many people here spell phonetically. . . Trust me. Where I'm from, Washington is said so that it should read: Warshington. Bowl? Re: Bow'. I wish I were kidding. I even know someone (two brothers, actually) who say and SPELL 'hurt' as 'hurnt'. Where they got that one, I'll never understand.
I agree with Miel--if you do'nt know it, get a beta. If I find errors in my stories, I too go back and reload them and fix them. I don't have betas *except for my exchange fics, darn rules* and I hope no one finds stuff like that in my stories.
But I have you guys, you'd tell me.
As for the not putting up with stuff from people. . . Yeah. I'm guilty of that too. Dumb people suck.
