Something New
I actually accomplished the impossible.
I stopped crying long enough to finish The Sands in Our Hourglass.
There are very few times that I have actually made myself cry while writing a fic. There was the part with Mollie on the beach in The Last, Chapter Nine, but other than that, Hourglass is about it. The real problem was not the fact that I wrote this very sad fic, but also, the song that I used as inspiration has always managed to make me quite verklempt too.
So, I post it here. This is a link to the actual song, so you can hear it, but, in case you are really lazy and don't want to click it, here's the lyrics to Magic Wand, by Amy Cook.
If I had a magic wand I'd go
Up to the water nice and slow
And wave my arms around so you wouldn't throw
It all, away
If I had a magic wand I'd lie
Under the dirt, fly over the sky
And you couldn't reach me, but God how you'd try
Anyway
I'd laugh like the wind
I'd drink it all in
And I always remember the smell of your skin
If I had a magic wand
If I had a crystal ball I'd see
Right through the days that keep you from me
And I would unravel this great mystery
And find the truth
If I had a crystal ball I'd know
Which of these stains would turn to gold
Which things to shatter and which to hold
Tightly to
I'd laugh like the wind
I'd drink it all in
And I'd always remember the smell of your skin
If I had a crystal ball
If I had a time machine I'd ride
To all of the worlds, that you left behind
And I'd gather them up, and place you inside
And we'd ascend
If I had a time machine I'd stay
Back in the rerun the very first day
With the sun and the sand and your lips on my face
Again, and again
I'd laugh like the wind
I'd drink it all in
And I'd always remember the smell of your skin
If I had a time machine
If I had a magic wand
And if you look really closely, a few of the lyrics ended up in the actual fic. It's an amazing song, one I've loved for a few years now, and finding a version of it online was a really annoying process. The things I do for my readers, right? The song really does capture a lot of the feeling that I wanted to convey to you guys, so listen or read it, or do both. Or do neither, it doesn't make that big of a difference to me.
And Ames, if you have the ability to check this while you are away visiting geocachers against your will... I've stalled out at 17. I mean, I'm hoping I get more, but this could possibly be the third fic in a row that hasn't broken the 20 review barrier. Sigh. I'm not quite sure what to do with that. Sigh. I'm annoyed, but not really. I love how this story turned out, because I think it's real departure for me, and I like that it's a bit unique. Plus, like always, I worked my butt off on it.
