Why Does ASP Hate Me SO Much?

I find myself wondering this an awful lot, especially lately.

I just don't know what I did to offend her so much that she's chosen to ruin my favorite show just to spite me.

Lane got proposed to in the last episode, by Zach.

I don't have a huge problem with Zach, other than the fact that he's kind of a loser who has a weird affinity for purchasing cleaning products and he thinks that everything should be rock and roll.

I didn't really have that big of a problem with them being a couple, other than the fact that the pairing all but fell from the sky at the beginning of season five. I have been forced to buy less from ASP, so this was tolerable.

I, however, have a HUGE problem with them getting married in three episodes.

HUGE.

Does ASP really believe that engagement rings are band aids for relationships? That all you have to do to make it all better and force a couple back together is send the guy to the pawn shop?

They have no money.

As far as I can tell, Zach doesn't have a job.

They have no place to live that doesn't have Brian in the living room or Mrs. Kim down the hall.

Zach seems more interested in those damn video games than he does in his relationship with Lane.

Zach is a putz.

Lane is so much better than a minimum wage job and a marriage to a loser.

They don't have enough chemistry.

You shouldn't get married just to have sex.

They are in the same band. It didn't work for Sonny and Cher, who in the world thinks it will work for Zach and Lane?

Lane should have gone to college. She used to be so smart, and sassy and had a lot of moxie, and now, she's getting married at the age of twenty one to the first idiot that asked her. And Zach is an idiot. And he's not going to stop being an idiot anytime soon. Why is she saddling herself down to a guy and a life when she could do anything she wants?

Gah!

And that's not even half of it. Luke and Lorelai are getting on my nerves. And it's not even just his dumbass-ness anymore. She is just as bad, because she should be telling him how she feels, instead of waiting for him to realize that he's being a dumbass. Because dumbasses rarely, if ever, realize that they are dumbasses. It's just a fact.

I was glad, however, to see Paris acting human again. The end of the last episode was a great scen for her, and I loved that she and Rory commiserated and are going to help each other through this. Because they do need each other, and when ASP actually takes the time to write them well, Rory and Paris have a good friendship, and they play off each other really well.

Sigh.

Oh well, at least I have Veronica Mars. How long do you think it'll be before RT lets me be happy and put Logan and Veronica back together? I know I'm hoping and wishing and praying it's before the end of the season.

Okay, so apparently I am the only loser that thought that the Lane/Zach proposal was cute. Yes, Zach is a dumbass but still, he's a dumbass Lane can tolerate. There is much to say about the ability to tolerate.

Lane may be smart but she has lived under her mom's rule for so long that she has no identity of her own. She wanted to be in a band. If she wanted college, (hopefully) she would do it in her own terms.

I do think Zach has a job, however, it has not been shown, unlike Brian's and Gil's. But don't quote me on that.

The proposal reminded me so much of Fiddler On The Roof. You may be poor, but if you're happy, then go for it. Mama Kim probably will have something to say about it but honestly, give Zach a chance. He is more celibate and thinks from both hand and heart compared to a certain someone (*Logan*) we know. There was a truthfulness in the proposal, I wish L/L had that moment.

I hope J is right though that the ending is sort of leading to another Chris/Lor union rather than an L/L. I love my JJs but man, there is no trust in that relationship!

Okay, off my soapbox.

12 Days to a new VM EP!

Here's the moment when everyone realizes how much of an annoying realist I am.

You love someone, great. Wonderful. Fan-frickin-tastic.

But, you can not build a marriage on love alone. You need to have so many more things, like money, or a place to live, or a real and actual job that doesn't require you smelling like french fries for ever.

If my best friend came up to me, and said that she was going to get married to a guy who dumped her and dashed all her chances for a future record deal in less than a month and a half, I'd think her insane. And I'd tell her so.

Some twenty one year olds are ready to handle marriage. Not many, but some. Lane and Zach, in my opinion, do not fall into this category. We haven't ever seen Zach do anything but play video games and sit around and fiddle with his guitar. He's never talked of having any type of job, let alone a crappy one. Lane works for Luke. Now, he's a good employer, but are her tips really that great that she thinks that she is ready to support a possibly not working spouse?

I don't have a lot of problems with the engagement itself. Be engaged. For awhile. Until the time when you are actually ready to be married, and unlike what the song says, you need more than love. You need some sort of stability. And minimum wage jobs and a dream of being a rock and roll band isn't stable enough, in my opinion.

Why do they have to get married so soon? Why does it all have to happen in a four episode arc?

i don't get the haste, either, unless the story line introduces some sort of tour they're leaving on and for some reason they don't want to wait the length of the tour... even then, it'd be contrived and stupid. the band isn't even currently together and these things don't happen overnight.

I'm with you. As 'romantic' as it might be, I just don't see them together. I never really have, and I just don't. BUt look at what I'm holding out for:

Dave to come back for Lane.
Lorelai and Christopher to let themselves be together.
Rory to find a slightly more mature Tristan in the Yale Quad one day and have a real relationship. Or for Jess to find his way to where ever Rory is, or vice versa.

I live in dreamland, where ASP has no control in f***ing it up.

Know what...my best friend did exactly what's happening with Lane on the show. She just got married to a good guy but he's only her first serious relationship. Grr, I think she should have waited a bit longer...I think there was pressure from her family. It's sad since she'll be more tied down now, and she wasn't really able to do much anyway (due to psycho parents). They were only together for a year and a half.

I'm actually scared for her, I don't mean to be a bitch but isn't 19 a little young.
