One of My Favorite Things...
One of my very favorite books ever is The Polar Express.
I have loved it from the very second that my first grade teacher read it to us. It is truly one of those magical tales that everyone appreciates, no matter how old or young that they are.
Unless you are incredibly bahumbuggy or an aethiest.
And I am neither of those things.
Anyway.
We got the movie for our viewing pleasure today. And may I just be the first one to say how incredibly sad I am that I missed out on this in the theaters? It's an utterly amazing piece of filmmaking. They managed to capture not only the story and the feel of the book, but also the look. It looks like they had the illustrator paint the people, instead of using that superfab computer animation. I was astonished.
And in addition to all that, I am happy to report that in this movie, Santa Claus is an equal opportunity employer.
His lovely little elves, decked out in adorable red outfits, are jewish.
I guess that must be why they don't have a problem working on Christmas Eve.
But seriously, they are so Jewish. Just watch.
I emplore you, go out and buy this. It's completely worth it. It even made me cry. And I know that at this point, that no one really takes this into account in purchasing anything, as I am a big crybaby, but still. The movie is still so touching.
There is one hitch.
There's this little kid in yellow pajamas that you will want to smack. Several times. On several occasions. But even that doesn't even make a dent in how wonderful that the movie is.
Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving!
