The Very Worst Kind of Author

After seeing what is happening on the Days of Our Lives board, I feel very bad about complaining about the lack of quality Trory stories on FF.net.

Some girl has actually stolen a fic from another author and is passing it off as her own. I have read this and read her other stories, and I can honestly tell you, it is impossible for her to have written the stolen story. I was shocked that this actually happened, and feel absolutely awful for the original author. I can't believe that this is actually happening. I can't believe that someone would actually have the balls to not only be a fic theif, but also, to then write three author's notes saying that the original author, who is being backed up by a powerful DOOL group rivalling GG's P&Pers, (actually, we get blown out of the water by the SBFCers. They actually have DOOL show connections, with their longevity and their regular appearances on the Soap Fans weekends and FanFairs. As far as I know, no one on P&P staff has been able to get ASP to return calls. I know I haven't.) But this is a powerful group, around since the beginning of Shelle (Shawn and Belle) and have deep connections. They know people, they can find things. In that regard, they are like P & P, mafia style or something. If I were this girl, I would not want to take on one of the founding SBFCers. It would be like me trying to claim that TMTC was mine, even though everyone in the GGverse knows full well that I am not, and never will be, the author. I mean, to steal such a noted work, an acclaimed, award winning tale, is seriously stupid. But that is what this girl did.

I may have gone on the DOOL page to see if there was any Lumi (Lucas and Sami) stories to read, but I ended up spending two hours reading the 50 reviews that basically, over and over, accused this girl of plagarism. Now, I may enjoy starting these wonderful bloggy bandwagons we are all so very fond of me forcing you to do. I am not, however, a fan of joining up in cahoots of people making serious accusations against another author without proof. So I went to the author in question's profile, and checked up on her other stories.

After reading her other fic, entitled There Goes My Life, it is impossible that she is the author of Leave Me Breathless. I can't even begin to describe the many offenses against good ficage that th is girl has committed, there are so many. (Ames, you will have a stoke when you read it. The grammar might make another round of hives break out.) LMB is great. An epic story. Well written, beautifully paced, and obviously created with great care and with a lot of thought. I am shocked and appauled that there is someone out there with the balls to steal it. But she did. There is just no way that the same person wrote both of these stories. Especially since Leave Me Breathless is a High School story, and there are very specific details about things that happened in the show in 2001-2003 that have been put in the show. And I won't believe that a ten-year-old could have not only been home every day to watch DOOL, a soap opera, but also with the knowledge and maturity to write adult scenes and themes that appear in this fic. If there is a ten year old with that much knowledge, then she needs to be removed from her parents care, because there is something twisted going on in her household.

I know that most of the people who read my blog aren't fans of DOOL, but I urge you to report this story to the FF.net administrators. I know its already been reported, and that many, many people have already done just that, myself included, but hopefully, if we flood their inboxes, maybe action will be taken not only to remove this story and this author from FF.net, but also to maybe find a way to safeguard that this kind of thing doesn't happen to others. Or, maybe, to make it quicker to have the stories that are stolen removed. Anything. Because this kind of thing can not be tolerated, whether it occurs in out fandom or another. If it can happen on the DOOL site, then it can happen in GGverse too.

I feel like we are lucky that the only thing we GG authors have to bitch about it the lack of good stories. At least our sucky authors are sucky authors with an original story, and not just an author because of the cut and paste buttons. I won't be quitting my complaining about that either, but I for one, feel really fortunate that we haven't had this happen to us. But if this whole incident has taught me anything, it's that it could happen to us. We all need to be vigilant, and make sure to check up on things every once in a while. Don't just forget the old standard stories. Because that's what this girl stole. And old standard. She stole what is an equivalent of a TMTC or a WTB in our little world. I certainly hope that this never happens to us, but it could. And we all need to keep our eyes peeled. It's the least we can do for these authors that we have all read and enjoyed time and time again. They may have moved on, or not posted in awhile because of time or other personal reasons, but that doesn't give anyone the right to take credit for their work. Plagarism is illegal. And the reviewers, while a bit melodramatic for some, are right. If Kristy, the original author, wanted to, she could have this girl charged with a crime. But I'm also pretty sure that she'd settle for a sincere apology, despite the intense enjoyment of seeing the thief dragged from her home in handcuffs, watching her future slip away.

Cuz you can bet that no college would let her in with a felony plagarism charge. I know that all the Universities that I have been to have stated that palgarism is an automatic expulsion charge. I can't see how they would even let her in with something like that on her record. Plus, every time that she goes for a job, she'd have to check the YES box when asked if she has committed a felony. I don't know about yours, but my boss doesn't hire felons. I think most bosses would feel that way. And would you really want to explain how you were caught stealing a fanfiction story to everyone who asked you why you were in jail? Cuz I don't think that it would really be worth it. You didn't get anything out of it. At least when you steal from a store, you have a sweater or a pair of jeans or something. When you steal money from a little old lady on her pension check cashing day, at least you have a few twenties or something. But a fanfic? No money. No tangible object. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zero. Nuttin'.

This girl is not only the worst kind of author, but the worst kind of human being. And she needs to be stopped. So check out the deets of this saga (that truly is worth of the show in which spawned the controversy) and review the story, and tell her that stealing is wrong, and then report her to the Administrators of the site. Please. We all, as good authors, need to stand behind each other. If we don't, who will?

man. i wish i had time to read those. i used to be a DOOL watcher, not fan fic reader, but I could jump into it, I'm willing to bet. :D I remember the beginning of Shelle, on the show. I loved them.

I am running a few minutes early, but not early enough to read fan fic. I'm just happy to have gotten one of my fics updated, let alone read anything :) But tonight I'll check it out, along with writing some PP for you. I promise.

In all honesty Ames, you only have to read the first paragraphs of the stories to realize that these have been written by someone else.

Even the original author has told her to cease and desist in peddling her work as this girls, and she won't stop, she's dilusional. Read the author's notes and the reviews. They all pretty much sum up everything.
