Schizophonic
I just realized something.
I have the weirdest taste in music. Seriously, I am all over the board.
Let's look at the facts, shall we?
What were the last five cd's I bought? (In no particular order. My head is on shuffle.)
1. Damien Rice- O (An absolutely amazing artist. I'm absolutely in love with his voice. It has such a gravely sound to it, and his song Volcano, is quite possibly the sexiest song ever. There's this cello part in it, and the glissandos and vibrato are amazing. I'll never be able to pull that off, no matter how much I practice. He's this amazing singer who appeared out of nowhere in Ireland. I love him.)
2. Crossfade (A friend of mine told me about them a while ago, and I didn't really pay any attention till he lent me his cd over Christmas break. Too bad I didn't get a chance to copy it, because I had to go out and buy a whole new cd for myself. Their song Cold was named the best rock song of 2004, so I can't be their only fan. Their stuff, while very rock and roll, has a depth and a grit to it that you don't find in most other albums. The lead singer's voice, and his guitar-ey stuff is amazing. Go check it out. Very much worth it.)
3. The Best of John Williams- (Mostly orchestral stuff, but from all my favorite movies. JW is the best film composer of all time, without any doubt. Any person who questions this will be flogged. If you don't like JW, then you don't like Star Wars (I personally never really enjoyed the films, but the music is good) or Jaws, or Harry Potter. He is a master at reinventing themes for sequels too, creating an entirely new version that still stays true to the original score.)
4.) Kelly Clarkson- Breakaway (Honestly, I'm a big American Idol fan. I love the first couple of eppies, where all the people are horrible, and then I don't start watching til the top ten. I have been able to pick the winner for all three. (My money is on Constantine this time around, he's got so much appeal.) But this album is really great. Kelly has a lot of talent, there is no denying that. She got millions of people to vote for her. Breakaway is great for it's diverse range of songs. There are the rocking out kind of songs, and the ballady ones too. My personal favs are Walk Away and Beautiful Disaster. It's great. )
5.)John Mayer- Heavier Things (I've been a Mayer fan since day one. And I'm loyal too. I love his stuff. Plus, no one can say anything bad about him really. He writes, produces, sings and plays all of his own stuff. Even the hard rockers respect him. The Anthrax guy said to. Any you can't disobey a guy with a longer beard than the Amish have, now can you? Plus, he actually gets it. Finally, a straight guy who actually gets it. Your Body is a Wonderland is an amazing song. And so romantic. He gets it. And he's not afraid to admit it. Plus, he's got that whole rocker thing, which makes him kind of bad even though he's not. He's a good guy with a rocker streak. Very hot.)
Granted, this list is random, and really spaced out. But just remember the powers of cd burners and that my birthday and Christmas are both in December, so I didn't need to buy any for quite a while, and this list was about cd's that I myself have purchased. I have a lot more cd's than that, but if I actually had to list all of them, I wouldn't be able to stop the typing.
Now, I'll listen to just about anything. I swear it. No joke. I have LinkinPark next to Gavin Degraw, and after that its the best of Vivaldi and Beatles 1. My favorite is Crossfade right now, I love that song Cold. Also good, Starless and So Far Away. But I've also got Norah Jones and Offspring on the cd list too. Come Away With Me and Pretty Fly for a White Guy, what a combonation.
I love classical music, probably from years of playing it in Orchestra. I especially love string pieces, like The Four Seasons and Eien Klien Nachtmusik, (the second movement is my fav). I also enjoy going to see stuff on Broadway, and proudly am the owner of Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera and The Lion King soundtracks. Also, I'm partial to the stuff from movies, which is probably also the result of my steamy love affair with anything that JW has written.
I love rock music, anything that can help me get the angry out. I am an avid Green Day fan, and their new album is great. I think that I had Boulevard of Broken Dreams on repeat for about a week. It's such an amazing song. The feelings that it evokes when you listen, wow. Even though I might not agree with their politics, I still appreciate the genius behind their work. I love Novicane and St. Jimmy.
I like the poppy stuff too. Ryan Cabrera, while completely misguided to be dating a poser like Ashley Simpson, is good. Well, to be more accurate, I like that song True. I also love Bowling for Soup, even though I'm not sure where to put them. They are so diverse in their appeal. I love their songs 1985 and Almost. I like that they don't take themselves too seriously, and can actually find a way that I'll enjoy listening to Baby One More Time (When Britney Spears isn't singing it. I despise her. She's an idiot for getting knocked up by her creepy scumbag husband. And even dumber for not getting an ironclad prenup before marrying him.)
I do have a major guilty pleasure genre. I like the easy listening stuff too. Enya, Josh Groban and Celine Dion are all on the list. I am a dork. Mock if you must. But Josh Groban's voice is amazing. He is so talented. I have both of his cds, and both are fantastic. Enya is great for relaxing. I like Only Time and Sail Away. Kicking back with a good book while she's singing is so calming. Celine Dion, well, what can I say? She's got a good voice, and despite the cheese factor, her album Falling Into You has been a favorite of mine since I was an preteen.
The only thing that I absolutely hate is rap. While I can appreciate the effort that it takes to talk very rapidly, listening to men demean women isn't something that I'll ever be very interested in. Plus, I'm not into listening about violence and drugs with every other word being 'Fuck' or 'Bitch.' I don't use words like that, so I don't want to listen to it for entertainment either. Now, I'm sure that there are plenty of songs out there that wouldn't be horrendous to listen to, but frankly, with all the other stuff, I don't see the point in sifting through the crap to find anything redeeming about it. (Plus, all those gold teeth freak me out. People, gold fillings cost a whole lot of money. A toothbrush runs you about a dollar, or is even free when you visit the DENTIST! Try it, it's much cheaper.)
So there you have it. I am one weird little child, let me tell you. And lets not even get into what my favorite movies are. Hmm... maybe that will be saved for tomorrow!
